Highland was almost entirely under water before it was first settled in 1848. Only a high sand ridge stood above the water. People referred to this area as Highlands. When the town was incorporated in 1910 there were 304 people. Today Highland boasts a population of 23,705. The town is proud of its small beginnings and continuing growth (Source: highland.in.gov).
Your support for the Highland Community Foundation helps us with our goal of improving the quality of life in the Town of Highland. Whether it is through the support of the arts, enhancing the environment through tree replacement and support for the Highland Rookery, or beautifying an unsightly and dangerous street corner, none of these projects, past, present and future, are possible without the support of our community.
Highland Has Art: The Highland Community Foundation partnered with the Highland Redevelopment Commission to obtain a grant, which was used as an artist stipend for the first Downtown Highland mural.
Tree Inventory: HCF was a partner in the 2017 Highland Tree Inventory to identify diseased trees and provide data on the town’s existing tree canopy. This data was used to develop Highland’s Urban Forest Plan.
